My 2001 Toyota Highlander check engine light turned itself off so I took the car to Toyota who said it’s an issue with the Catalytic converter. I was gonna take it to a couple of places to get some quotes, however the light turned itself off in December 2010.
I heard that the computer will reset itself from time to time and if
there is no further issue then the light will turn itself off. The bulb
itself works fine (it still turns on and then off at start up)
and I don’t have to worry about e-check or anything like that . Should I
just let it go as a fluke or should I take it back to get it rechecked?
Thanks.
Answer: The light comes on because the sensors are detecting something that’s not optimum with your emissions. I’d start out with a bottle of fuel system
cleaner, like Techron, and see if it clears up the problem. And perhaps
it could also be you C02 sensor once it goes back to the default
position the check engine light will turn off. I wouldn’t worry too much about it unless it comes on again.
