1999 Lexus GS300 Brake Pads |
I need to change the brake pads on my 1999 Lexus GS300. I want to buy the brakes and than take it to the mechanic to change. Could anyone tall me which brake pads brand is good for 1999 Lexus GS 300?
Answer: Typically I would agree to get OEM pads, but in
this specific case I would say not to do this based on actual
experience. I’ve bought the OEM replacement pads for 1998 GS300 before from Lexus (genuine Toyota part),
and they are really outdated and designed wrong. So I’m giving a thumbs
down to anyone who said OEM for the 2GS because they haven’t actually
seen or bought these specific pads. The chamfers are cut extremely far
into the material which shows they had to redesign the part and they
made a big compromise on braking power to cut out noise. You basically
only have 60% of the potential pad surface touching the rotor. When the
pads finally wear and finally you get more contact area, they then they
end up squeaking, especially for the first few miles when cold (from the
pads-rotor contact not from the shims). Go to Rockauto.com and take a
look at the other brake pad
choices that are available. I would recommend Akebono pro-act or any
other ceramic pad set. When I got the akebonos the chamfers look
“normal” (perhaps 10% in) and nowhere near as into the pads as the OEMs.
