"The Correct Way to Replace a Lug Stud on an 1999 Honda Odyssey"

White 1999 Honda Odyssey

What is the correct way to replace a lug stud on a 1999 Honda Odyssey? One of the studs broke while changing tire. I need to replace the stud but I’m having problems with the big nut holding the plate with the studs on it. I started to hammer the old stud out and it is being stopped by a “lip”. Is there an easier way than removing the knuckle?
Answer: You would need an impact wrench or giant breaker bar to remove the big nut. And the “plate” still wouldn’t come off because the bearing is pressed in. I don’t have the shop manual for your vehicle memorized. With many vehicles, you tap out the stud with a hammer. Somewhere the factory should have given you enough room to extract the old stud. If not, you need to take off the steering knuckle and press out the bearing. Line up the splines and the new stud taps in with a hammer. Pull it the rest of the way in with the lug nut. Be careful. If you do it wrong you could loose the wheel while driving down the road.
