"1991 Ford Econovan: GPS Power Problems"

1991 Ford Econovan

I have an 1991 Ford Econovan camper conversion. The 12V cigarette lighter outlet powers the actual lighter which works fine but when I plug in my Garmin GPS or my iTrip nothing. Why is this happen? What would it take to fix?

Answer: A cigarette lighter outlet has flanges inside it, made to hold the actual lighter in place until it pops back out. Sometimes the flanges prevent other 12v accessory plugs from being inserted into the socket all the way.
You can buy an add-on 12-volt socket at any auto parts store; mount it under the dash and wire it into the existing socket wiring. That’s probably the cheapest and easiest fix, and a second outlet often comes in handy.
