1996 Toyota Camry Head Gasket |
I took my 1996 Toyota Camry car to mechanic. As soon as i got to mechanic, it completely died. For what they said was a problem with the water pump and the estimated cost of $ 650 I gave the nod to fix it. then right, and now they tell me I have big problems, that my head gasket has blown and must be replaced by an additional $ 1,500. I think I have to pay $ 650, but have not yet decided what to do with the cylinder head gasket problem. They say car will not last 2000-3000 miles on the job. I have read about the meeting said that thermos blown gaskets and fix only $ 100 can, but I’m pretty skeptical. I also read somewhere else that might be cheaper to just replace the whole engine. Is that true? Car has about 103k miles on it at the moment and mechanical correction could claim over 200k, but I’m not sure if it’s worth.
Answer: For the money they want you could get a newer engine. Be careful of crate motors, they sometime are not made to USA specs and may have different mountings for things like smog pumps.aluminum heads can warp, then the car is trash. Toyota cars can easily go over 200,000, my 88 corolla died at 225,000. Get estimates from everywhere before you decide.my head gasket blew and considering the mileage i just junked it.
