Red 1988 Ford Escort |
I have an electrical
problem on my 1988 Ford Escort. I replaced the head last summer and now
I have no power coming into the ECM, I have replaced relays (fuel pump
& EEC) checked all the fusible links and grounds (the ones that I
know of). It is a strange problem sometimes it will have power and
sometimes it doesnt, right now it doesnt and it is a problem that is
driving me crazy. Also I have checked the ignition switch and I have power there but I was wondering if it could be the clutch switch?
Answer: You could have a
bad connector at the ECM, you could also have a bad ECM. You’r Ford
Escort is nearly 20 years old. It could be anything. But one thing I’ve
learned as an electrical trouble shooter in industry, start with the basis first:
1) is every connection tight.
2) is every connection in teh proper place.
3) is all the wiring in the proper operating condition.
1) is every connection tight.
2) is every connection in teh proper place.
3) is all the wiring in the proper operating condition.
Once you get past that, then you can
start checking fuses. You’d be surprised at how many screws or
connectors can come loose on a vehicle that is 20 years old.
