"2003 Nissan Sport X-Trail Starting Problems"

2003 Nissan Sport X-Trail

I have a 2003 2.2 Diesel Nissan Sport X-Trail. Recently when I park on the flat or uphill, i start the car, and it will almost immediately cut out. To restart the engine it turns over and over and then will eventually start again (I’m worried about the battery here!).
Just to add this only happens when initially starting the car when parked flat or on an incline, and doesn’t matter how much fuel is in the tank, also it doesn’t help if I rev the engine when it starts either, it will still cut out.
I have spoken to Nissan and mechanic friends who have given me a few options. Its either something to do with when its uphill the fuel drains back or a leaky injector?? My local mechanic has plugged it into his machine and no error codes were returned, although he thinks it could be a Nissan specific code?? Nissan want £80 to plug their machine in…
I’m happy to take it to a garage to get it sorted but just want to know if anyone else has seen this problem before, any advice please?? So I know what I’m talking about!!!
Answer: Won’t be injector. May be air leak in fuel line before or at the injector pump. Worst possible is injector pump u/s. Check fuel line fittings to see they’re not loose. Check fuel hoses for cracks, stiffness. Should be pliable, partic under clamps. Operate priming pump (it should go hard) and look for leaks between it and inj. pump & at pump. fuel filters in main tank can fall off and leave the pipe short. Do drain out the water from the primer/filter unit. Filters can clog, it may need new ones. Algae in fuel???-they live in the disolved water content of stored/slowly used/contaminated fuel. petrol stations OFTEN put water in their tanks to float low fuel levels higher for the pump pickups. Make sure no leaks between tank and primer, but I suspect a loose fitting or bad hose under the bonnet. NB if BANJO fittings used, refit ONLY with clean, NEW SOFT-metal washers to get seal. BTW. is your airfilter clean, how’s your compression? fit new worm drive clamps to rubber fuel lines Could be bad primer unit too, esp if it won’t go hard and there’s no leaks!. Ebay?
