"1988 Mercedes Benz 300 E Power Seat and Window Problems"

1988 Mercedes Benz 300 E

I have a 1988 Mercedes Benz 300e where the power head rests do not work and the rear passenger side power window does not work, how much would it cost to fix, or would I be able to fix the problem myself. Thanks.
Answer: Most often the seat switch assembly is the culperit for headrest troubles remove switch and spray into it with wd-40 or t.v. tuner cleaner, this generaly works for a while and is a good test but new switch is the preferred repair.
for power window problem [quick test]
1 close door and turn ign to on position [all accessories off] and wait for seat belt buzzer to quit.
2 turn on dome lamp and note how bright it is.
3 push window switch in down position [did the dome lamp dim slightly] preform this at both switch stations [making sure the child gaurd switch is not on] if lamp dimmed you have a bad motor/regulator.
4 now push switch to up position, once again if lamp dims you need motor/ regulator.
5 if lamp stayed bright [no change] in step 3 replace switch.
6 if lamp stayed bright [no change] in step 3 AND 4 suspect broken wire[s] at door jamb.
where they flex as they go into door.
in reguard as to wether or not you can repair this yourself i would reccomend you purchase a repair manual for this car and study the sections involved and evaluate your own skills before attempting these jobs.
