2003 Hyundai Accent |
My 2003 Hyundai Accent started 125k miles on it and just started
having problems with the shifting gears. Has a difficulty in the
opposite direction, but very good in the first. It stumbles when walking
difficult enough, but once on the road it feels good. When slowed down, it wobbles and changes back and forth on the gears low / high. What can I do or what should I do? The transmission fluid is fine as is the engine oil.
Answer: Sadly, the problem is a 90% chance you need a
new transmission. Those are all tell tale signs of a failing
transmission you described. I would go to 2-3 shops and get quotes both
on used and new transmissions. A new transmission for that car with
labor is about $1800-$2200 on average. You could try a used
transmission…but if it fails you’ll have to spend all that money on
labor to replace it again and this job takes at least 10 hours for a
mechanic.
