"1985 Chevrolet Van 350 Transmission Won’t Go For Reverse Gear"

Red 1985 Chevrolet Van 350

I have a 1985 Chevrolet van 350 trans and it pulls forward in every gear, park, reverse and neutral. And it will not lock into park. When you crank it your in gear. Any help?
Answer: On that year truck there is a linkage (rods and bushings) that goes from the lever in the driver compartment to the transmission. Make sure the parking brake is set! Then crawl under the drivers side look at the side of the transmission. It should be located just back from where the bell housing reduces down to the transmission. There is a piece of metal that is shaped like a C with a bolt holding it on to the shaft that selects the gears inside the transmission. This C shaped bracket has or should have a rod going through it. Often the plastic grommet they put around the rod wears out and the rod becomes loose. If this is the case get another grommet. Also the codder pin may have came loose and allowed the rod to partially come out of the C bracket in this case put the rod back in and get a codder pin to hold it in there. If it is neither of these trace the linkage up to the cabin and make sure it is in good working order. If it is none of these it is likely something in the transmission itself.
