"1996 Mazda Protege DX: The Wiper Problems in Freezing Weather"

Black 1996 Mazda Protege DX Front View

I’m having a problem with my 1996 Mazda Protege DX wipers, they’re not working. I mean the wipers are not moving at all, when I turn them on, I can hear the motor running but they will not go. Last night we had snowfall of about 12 inches. So I read in the manual that heavy snow or ice will cause this, and the circuit breaker that protects the wiper motor will cause the wipers to be inoperable. It says to pull the right of way, wait 5 minutes then turn the switch on. First of all, does anyone know if this would be the problem? If so, what does that mean? Pull what the right of way? Help please. Any information would be helpful, even any websites that could help me would be great, I’m having trouble finding a solution.
Answer: In freezing conditions the wiper blades can freeze to the wind shield. so when you turn them on it can burn the wiper motor. So there is a protection switch that senses that the blades are stuck and it kicks in. What I recommend is to leave you wipers lifted up over night so they dont freeze on the windshield.
