Silver 1998 GMC Jimmy Left Side View |
I’ve been having problems with the wipers in my 1998 GMC
Jimmy. They work, but badly. Delay doesn’t always work, if I try to use
delay, sometimes the wipers function in the low or high mode, but not
delay. When I turn them off, they will keep going for a minute or two, and then stop in the middle of the windshield. It’s getting annoying, and since I don’t have a warranty, I’m looking to repair them myself. Could it be the motor or the relay? I’m not sure where to start first. I’d appreciate any responses!
Answer: Replace the
wiper pulse board module. They did have a recall on this for some models
and years. Even though it may not fall under the recall they still go
bad and by what you describing it sounds like it.
They are easy to replace, the wiper motor is mounted on the firewall. on
it there’s a plastic (black) cover with four torx 15 or 20 in size.
Undo the electrical connector and remover this cover and it slides right out. New part will come with new screws and cover. Install new pulse board and then get some rtv sealant ad put a very small bead of it around the edge of the cover and install with new screws. Don’t over tighten, then plug the electrical connector back in. That should cure what ails you.
