"How To Change The Oil and Oil Filter on 1998 Volvo S90"

1998 Volvo S90 Image

I’ve been reading that changing the oil in a Volvo is slightly different than for other cars. can someone give me step by step instructions on how to change the oil and oil filter in a 1998 Volvo S90? Thanks for any help.
Answer: The Volvo S90 has a B6304F engine which really needs synthetic oil (Mobil 1 is good stuff). Depending on where you live, 10w30 is a decent grade. The oil filter is a regular ST16 from walmart (quality filter, surprise, surprise) though you can use the ST8 (Same as the Fram PH8A which exists everywhere for Fords/Chevys etc) which is a larger filter.
Jack up the front of the car a bit, you’ll need the 10mm and 12mm sockets to remove the belly pan and it ‘hinges’ down towards the front and unhooks. The 17mm socket is used to remove the drain plug. When the oil is drained, put the bolt back in and move the pan to the filter which is exposed under the belly pan.  Let that drain a bit and put the new filter on.  This engine takes about six quarts of oil, so put that in, start the engine and run it for 15-30 seconds, then stop it and let it sit for 15 minutes to drain the oil down to the pan, then check the oil level again and top off if necessary.
