"How To Change The Transmission Fluid on 1999 Subaru Forester"

1999 Subaru Forester Engine Compartment

Can anyone tell me how can I change the transmission fluid and filter on my 1999 Subaru Forester?
Answer: There is a big filter labeled ‘transmission’ it is external and can be accessed without removing the transmission. Follow these instruction below if you want to do it by yourself.
  1. Raise up your car.
  2. Put a big pan under the transmission, remove the drain bolt and oil filter and drain the oil (this step could take a long time).
  3. Replace the drain bolt and filter (I suggest you to buy buy a new crush washer and new filter).
  4. Pump the oil into the gearbox through the gearbox dipstick. Be very sure that you do not overfill the gearbox.
In case you feel difficult to do this task alone, a shop should be able to do this for you for around $75 labor.
