1994 Cadillac Deville Alternator |
I have too put the new alternator on my 1994 Cadillac Deville.
Could you please give me detail instructions as well as what tools I’ll
need to remove the old one then put the new alternator? Thank you so
much.
Answer: I do not know what year the car
companies went metric. So you will have to check to see what tools you
will need. In general. First disconnect the battery to ground cable clamp. If it is top post, it will be a 3/8 or 1/2 combination, if it a side posts it will be a 3/8 combo. Next undo the wires on the back of the Alternator and mark then, so you can put then back, some time I take picture with a digital camera, for referece. Next loosing the Alt. bracket, the one that hold the Alt. tight, next remove the bolt holding the Alt. To install just do it opposite ways, there may be other thing in the way, look at then, and remove then. Do not disconnect the air conditioner hoses,
If you have to remove the compressor, just un do it and pull it aside
as much as you can, you may have to tie it off to keep it out of you
way. As to tools. You will need a set of combinations wrenches,
those a box on one end and open end on the other end, a 3/8 inch
ratchet wrench set. And some screw drivers. And a set of channel lock
pliers. You may want to get both a fractional and metric wrench set, as
you never know what you are going to run in to. It is not hard to change
parts on a car, you just have to mark every thing you take apart and
remember where, and how it goes back. Take you time and plan you work. I
am not sure on your model, but if it has a serpentine belt, you have to
pull the idler back, and hold it and undo the bolt to loosing the belt, then with doing the other stuff; you have two Alt. bolts to remove.
