How to reset the ecu on an 1997 Mitsubishi 3000GT? I heard about
someone resetting the ecu on a 3000GT to turn the check engine light, is
there someway to reset it? (For example,
on a Grand Am, you have to turn the ignition switch on and of two times
without turning on the engine and pressing the gas pedal all the way
down three times) can I reset the code without using an OBD?
Answer: You will need to find out why the CEL is on.
The “Check Engine Soon” light means THERE IS A PROBLEM with either
engine performance and/or emission controls and should be repaired ASAP.
This light DOES set codes in the computer and can be scanned with an
OBD2 scan tool. Most auto parts stores with do this as a free service.
The Grand Am you refer to, is a different light. That would be a “Service Engine Soon” light and it is ONLY A REMINDER that a recommended routine maintenance is needed. When you get your engine serviced, ask the mechanic to reset the light for you. (This light DOES NOT set any codes in the computer).
