"1999 Hyundai Sonata: The ECU Fuse Blow"

White 1999 Hyundai Sonata Front Left View

I have a 1999 Hyundai Sonata 4 cylinder engine. It is a interference motor. Timing belt broke so I had that the timing belt and the other one, replaced at a shop. I picked it up from the shop and on the way home the car stalled out. The ECU fuse blew, changed it and had to charge the battery. I got it home and looked at it. I found that the alternator belt was about halfway off, so I fixed that. The engine is running real rough, shakes and I can hear a tapping (clicking) sound from inside the engine I believe. So the mechanic that replaced the timing belt said that he thinks it needs a new computer but I don’t believe he is right, it wasn’t messed up before and the engine ran a lot smoother and didn’t make a tapping sound. The sound seems like it is coming from the head. When you start the engine it revs high at about 1500 rpm and slowly goes down. What do you’ll think it is? Do you think the timing belt was put on wrong? What order should I check stuff in? Thank you very much I really need help to fix this car.

Answer: The belt shouldn’t have anything to do with the fuses blowing, but the roughness in the engine and the fan belt not being right in it shows you that not a very good mechanic was on the job.
