I have a 2000 Mitsubishi Galant and I am being told that the ECU must be brand new because used ECU’s already have VIN numbers programmed in them that CANNOT be changed. I was told to buy a new one but they run about $1900 that I don’t have to sink into this car any ideas on how to get around the VIN problem would be appreciated thanks.
Answer: The ecu does have a code that attaches it to the immobilisers on the car. You can get them reprogrammed and repaired by ecu specialists. Do a Google search on it to find one in you’re area and speak to them.
