"2001 Cadillac Catera: Replacing The Anti-lock Breaking System Module"

White 2001 Cadillac Catera Left View

Should I replace ABS Module on 2001 Cadillac Catera? I was told I need to replace the ABS Module, I drive for awhile and the check engine light and abs traction control light come on, also the speedometer doesn’t work. Mechanic told me abs module needs to be replaced, I want to know, will NOT replacing this module affect the drive of the car or possibly my safety? Does anyone know if this would affect the use of my brakes or possibly the airbags?

Answer: A non-working ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) module will most likely disable the “anti-lock” feature of your brakes. This means that when you slam on the brakes your wheels will lock up and you will skid to a stop. Anti-lock brakes pulse the braking system bringing you to a much quicker stop with little or no skidding. I’m not sure why the ABS module would be the reason for the engine light and speedometer problems but there are many cars that don’t have ABS at all so it is obviously not 100% necessary. I would say if you have the money to spend on it, fix it.
