1934 Chrysler Airflow |
Chrysler Airflow car was far ahead of its time. He was one of the first cars in the shape on aerodynamic theory. Chrysler built the wind tunnel industry and Orville Wright’s first visit (the inventor of the aircraft) for air flow design. The result was one drag-free point, which could have the car to 90 mph.

1934 Chrysler Airflow Chassis & Frame |
The chassis design was a
breakthrough. While modern cars and engines mounted behind the front
axle and rear passengers sit in front of the rear axle, the airflow
through the engine moved forward 20 inches for all passengers sat in the
wheelbase. This allowed for a hatchback-like tail, which reduces
turbulence and negative pressure, thereby reducing the drag. Another
advantage of this design was improved ride quality, especially for rear
passengers. Needless to say, this design has been standard for many
years later, however, was a breakthrough then.

Air flow was also one of the first cars to the traditional separate chassis
with the body under the stairs to leave. The Council adopted a
three-dimensional frame with rigid frame around the fenders, doors and
roof. Steel side panels are joined outside the frame. This rigidity and
security offered more than the current body-on-frame.

1934 Chrysler Airflow Engine |
The drivetrain is more conventional – an 8 engine with side valves cylnder, although aluminum pistons are used. The 3-speed manual transmission was later an overdrive for cruising refinement to improve. The brake system had progressed very far – while others have been working with the cable car had brakes, the air flow servo-hydraulic brakes.

However, the technology did not bring sales success for Chrysler. In
fact, it was very disappointing. Maybe it’s wind tunnel-shaped design
was so advanced, people might not accept it. Preferred conventional
screens prominent Chrysler flowing “waterfall” grille. After only four years Chrysler decided to withdraw the air stream. However, the impact would be forgotten in the automotive world ever.
