"1998 Audi A4 1.8 ECU Need To Be Flashed: An Issue"

Silver 1998 Audi A4 1.8 Front Angle View

Is it true that my ECU needs to be flashed if my battery has been disconnected on my 98′ Audi A4 1.8? Are there any other problems that might occur?

Answer: No. The only “problems” you may experience are resetting radio presets, clock date & time, etc. The car may run a little rough at first but should be fine. The vital ECM programing, fuel and ignition maps, etc. are written in permanent (non-volatile) memory, they will not be lost without power. What you will lose is what is called volatile memory. These are mostly learned parameters. The ECM “learns” how the engine is running and how the owner drives. Fuel Trims and other parameters that the car changes to compensate for wear, will be lost. After driving the car, The ECM will “relearn” these things. You may not even notice any of these things taking place. You should be fine.
