"How To Program 2006 Audi A4 Key Fob"

2006 Audi A4 Key Fob

I have an 2006 Audi A4. It only came with one fob key and no valet key. Dealer wants $140 for the fob and $100 to program it. If I just bought the key could I program it myself? There are lots of forums on this but some say if it’s new the dealer has to program it but others said this isn’t true.

Answer: The only way to program the key is with Audi information. As part of the anti theft program the car has an immobilizer that looks for a matching code to keep the car running. It is true that a shop can buy the information from Audi however they have to have a device called GEKO to pass the information through and it cost the shop $150 to get it. If the information gets interrupted the key will not work and the shop will need to pay the fee again as the GEKO device is just a pass through device and no information is given to the shop. Bottom line is you need to buy the key and pay the dealer to code it that way you know it works.
