Answer: The ECM receives information from the sensors on the engine such as O2 sensor, map sensor, Throttle position sensor, and mass air sensor, knock sensor, crank angle sensor, and uses this info to adjust the fuel delivery, ignition timing, idle level and overall performance of the engine. Some also adjust the voltage coming from the charging system to keep the battery charged.
