While having a front tire replaced on my 1998 GMC Yukon, I was told I needed ball joint
replaced, since they had only seen the one tire, I did not ask about
others. What is meant by “set” and ” upper & lower” and does this
apply to all four tires?
Answer: Your 1998 GMC Yukon has 4 ball joints – upper and lower, right and left side in the front. I would referrer to a “set” as both lower or both upper. Worn ball joints
– the lower is commonly the one to wear first – can cause uneven tire
wear but so can many other things. I would suggest a complete front suspension inspection to determine what is worn and should be replaced. Just looking at the tires is not good enough.
