"2008 Lexus IS: GPS System Suggestion"

2008 Lexus is GPS System

What’s a good third party GPS system/mount for a 2008 Lexus IS?

Answer: If you are asking what would be a good in dash navigation unit, then I would suggest either Pioneer or Eclipse. You will need an install kit that fits into the space for the radio and has a double DIN opening. Such kits are available for most cars on the market and you can try to find it on eBay, etc. If there is no such kit available for your car and you don’t mind paying the money then you can have one custom made.
There are many companies that sell in-dash navigation systems such as Pioneer, Eclipse, Kenwood and Clarion. The Kenwood and Clarion systems require you to purchase a touch screen monitor that has CD/DVD player function and mounts into the dash and the navigation unit itself which can mount under the front seat. The Pioneer and Eclipse units are all-in-one units that mount very simply into the dash. One of the Pioneer units (AVIC-Z2) is one such all in one units. It has touch screen and voice command capability and bluetooth kits, iPod/MP3 player adapters and rear backup camera kits are available to install with this unit as well. It features a 30GB hard drive for music storage. It has multiple outputs as well so that you can connect it to a monitor in the backseat for viewing DVDs. The Eclipse units have the same capabilities except voice command. Toyota dealerships sell these as an aftermarket GPS option. These units are less expensive than that from Pioneer and the others and it is of very high quality and is very accurate. You should go to the websites I have linked to and check out the various offerings from each manufacturer.
Don’t forget that a viable alternative is the portable navigation systems. There are those that mount to the windscreen, phones that are GPS capable from carriers such as Verizon Wireless and the Garmin nuvi series that can fit in your pocket.
