"2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid: The Touch Screen GPS Problems and Warranty"

2006 Toyota Highlander GPS Device

I have an 2006 Toyota Highlander Hybrid. Recently the touch screen controls have stopped working. (GPS, Temperature, Stereo, etc.) I took it to the dealer and after one day they called me and said that when the service tech. touched the screen, the screen shattered. They told me they have never had this happen before. The warranty was for 3 years or 35,000 miles. I have @ 42,000, so it’s not covered. It is going to cost @ $3,000 to fix. My question is, has anyone else had this experience? I am wondering since the unit wasn’t shattered when I took it in, would they be at least partially responsible?
Answer: I would hold the dealer responsible thats a load of bull if you took it in there without physical damage and they broke it I would demand that they pay for it or get a lawyer if you really want to fight that battle, if not. Go aftermarket unless you want to keep that stock look for trade in value and such. If you plan to keep it till the car dies, go aftermarket you can get the same screen if not better for under 800 dollars and get an audio shop to install it all for under 1000. If you still want your factory screen still take it to an aftermarket audio shop. Ask around locally and see, most aftermarket shops will fix this for waaaaay under dealer pricing. Good luck though with that problem.
