"How To Repair Passenger Seat in 1995 BMW 540i"

1995 BMW 540i Rear Passenger Seat

I have problems with the passenger seat on my 1995 BMW 540i. The seat back binds on one side when I’m trying to recline. does anyone know how to fix the problems?
Answer: Binding seatback when you try to recline the seatback means that there is some kind of interference in the movement of the seatback. Assuming you have electric control of the passenger seatback, you should attempt to see visually what is causing the binding. It could be some foreign object which has worked its way between the seat and the seatback; it could be simply excessive seat cover material; it could be from a bent seatback hinge or arm; it might be from something lodged below the seat.
You can take the entire seat assembly out of the car, but you will be limited by the length of the electrical cable that controls the seat back’s movement. It is also possible to move the seat forward or backward to avoid interference with the driveshaft tunnel between the two front seats. Probably the most positive method is to unfasten the seat rails from the floor and elevate the passenger seat 6 or 8 inches without disconnecting the electrical control cables. Then turn on the ignition and operate the seatback by electrial pushbutton to see if the seatback will now recline.
