2003 BMW Z4 Mass Airflow Sensor |
I have problems with my 2003 BMW Z4, the “Service Engine” light is on and the mechanic
says my mass airflow sensor is not working. Should I replace it for
extra $450? What does a mass airflow sensor do and what will happen if I
do not replace it?
Answer: The mass airflow sensor (MAF) reads the amount of air entering the engine and adds or removes fuel accordingly to ensure the proper ratio. If your MAF is indeed bad, you would be better off replacing it yourself. It’s in the air intake tract and is usually held in place by clamps holding the air ducts to the inlet and outlet of the MAF.
