I have problems with engine cooling on my 1999 Volkswagen Golf 4 cylinder Front Wheel Drive Manual 78000 miles. I have had a small scrape/rattle in the engine for about a month. Yesterday I was on the moterways engine cooling light came on and i decided not to stop. At garage i discovered all coolant gone from it container. Filled it up drove on.
Slowly as I carried on fierce scraping started I stopped now it wont go away and all coolant drains straight through to the floor. I was wondering do you think it is a new engine job or repair?

Answer: Needs a new water pump the bushing/bearing has gone bad allowing water to leak out and a scraping noise soon follows.
