How can I install a fuel filter on a 1988 Dodge Ram Charger 318 V8? I specifically need to know which hoses go where when putting back on. If anyone could find a diagram it would be great.
Answer: Follow the gas line from the carburetor back to the gas tank, you’ll see a barrel shaped object, either made of plastic or metal with hose clamps on both ends, that should be your fuel filter. If you don’t see it before you get to the fuel pump, then it’s before your pump and past your fuel tank, just follow that gas line back and you should see it. If that fails, then just ask at the auto parts
house for help and they should be able to locate it for you. As for
installing a new one, you just buy a new one; be sure to get new clamps
also, and loosen the clamps holding the old one on, be careful not to
get gas on yourself as it will cause chemical burns, take it off and put
the new one on, and re-hook the hoses and use new clamps and tighten
them, the truck should start when you turn the ignition on, once the the
truck is idling, check for gas leaking, if so, turn off and re-tighten
clamps after checking that they are on correctly, usually a 1/8th of a
inch back from the end of the hose.
