"Why My 2000 Mercedes-Benz CLK 430 Won’t Start?"

2000 Mercedes Benz CLK 430 Rear View

I have a 2000 CLK 430 Mercedes. For the past few days it would take me about 15 minutes to get my car started. The key would only turn to the 1st position in the ignition. I would turn the steering wheel and jiggle the shifter. Then it would start, but today I was about to leave for work put the key in the ignition and it wouldn’t turn past the 1st position at all. No matter what tried. I also put new batteries in the key to see if maybe that was the problem. The key also won’t lock or unlock the car at all. It’s really odd because it just started doing this. Do you think I have to get a new key?

Answer: First, test BOTH keys to see if they both work in the ignition. If only one is able to start the car, then you only need a new key. All the batteries in the remote do is power the lock/unlock and trunk opener. If neither key works, then the culprit is most likely the immobilizer in the car. The immobilizer recognizes the key and allows the engine to be started. Hopefully it’s just the key, and not the uber costly ignition/immobilzer.
