Just bought a 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 and noticed (when I bought it) that it has ABS, it was slippery out today, so I decided to try it. It didn’t work, I just locked up the brakes
and slid for a second. But the ABS light didn’t turn on on the dash
board. It does come on for a second when the car is first started (like
it’s supposed to). What could be wrong?
Answer: When you start the car the computer checks
all the systems, your abs light should be off. Normally the light comes
on when there is a problem, most people do not realize what abs is or
does, it’s not something you can feel, and if you are driving too fast
for conditions your still screwed if you crash. It’s supposed to help
you maintain control by the computer sensing what each wheel is doing
thousands of times per second, to fast to feel or tell what its doing.
And yes, ice is SLIPPERY IF YOU CANT STAND UP YOUR CAR MAY HAVE A SPOT
OF TROUBLE TOO YA THINK? Sounds like you stopped anyway good that’s what
you do, drive normally, and if you ever have to slam on the brakes in wet or dry pavement the anti lock brakes which are normally on only the front help keep the wheel turning so you can dodge or do what ever to maintain control.
