I have an 1996 Lexus GS 300 that was given to me. The car was repossessed, so I am not sure if there were problems for the previous owner.
However, my car was fully checked, inside and out, so if the ABS light
being on was a problem, wouldn’t someone have told me that? I’d just
like to know what it means. Also, my Check Engine light stays on
constantly, it does occasionally in cars, but what does that mean? Just
two questions, hoping for some experienced feedback! Thank you!
Answer: “ABS”means the same thing on ALL cars. It stands for Anti-lock Brakes. You may have a bad wheel speed sensor, or at least a dirty one. If your check engine light is on, DO NOT WASTE TIME. Go to AutoZone and get a free computer
scanning to HELP find out the cause. Notice I said HELP, because many
times there is something causing a sensor to misread. Most of the time,
it indicates a bad o2 sensor, BUT, the sensor usually just misreads due
to a clogged up PCV, throttle body, or most often, a dirty IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE.
Once these items are cleaned out, the O2 sensor usually begins to get
happy again and does not require replacement. Consider going to a brake shop that does a free inspection. Good luck!!
