"2007 Subaru Forester: Radiator Cap Smelling Coolant"

2007 Subaru Forester Engine View

I have a 2007 Subaru Forester. Keep smelling coolant but see no leak anywhere. Temperature is fine. Any suggestions? Took it to the dealer they couldn’t find anything wrong. Said it was the radiator cap but I still smell it. Temperature has been fine.

Answer: I had a similar problem with a 96 Commodore, turned out that there was a slight leak under pressure from a rear welch plug, which leaked onto the exhaust which caused the coolant burning smell you described. I sold the car.
Your Subaru should be perfect, I can’t think of why a new car would make those smells, but my sense tells me to look along the car body above the exhaust and see if you can see a path dropping on to exhaust. Did they replace the radiator cap with a new one, (pressure relief), there may have been an overflow which runs down to the exhaust. Good luck
