"Buy OEM Volvo S60 Brake Pads for Cheap Price"

Red Volvo S60 Front View

Where can I buy OEM Volvo S60 brake pads for cheap? I live in Dubai and I need new brake pads. For two front brake pads, they charge 700 Dirhams which is around 180 or so American dollars. Mercedes charges 400 for all four pads. Volvo is charging like crazy. Anybody know where I can get cheap pads but are authentic because that is just highway robbery and they know they can get away with it. But I also heard that the BMW 5 series brake pads are almost exactly the same except for the little metal piece on the back of the Volvo pads.

Answer: You are probably right about the similarities between BMW and Volvo brake pads. Very few car manufacturers make their own brake pads, they are supplied from a third party source who are not allowed to disclose manufacturer origins to final end users, this reduces your options from sourcing your part direct and help dealer margins when you buy from them which is why they are “eye gouging” you 700 dirhams for just the front set.
If I were you I would be avoiding OEM brake pads because the brake dust is excessive. This means cleaning of your front wheels frequently (if you use your car daily, a weekly clean is required). Brake dust causes pitting in the wheels and embeds itself on surrounding paintwork/clearcoat. I have some original Volvo alloy wheels pitted by OEM dusts, you can learn from my experience. Regular washing will not remove embedded brakedust from your clearcoat, you need a detailers claybar to do this. If I had a choice and purchased my car new, the first trip out of the dealership would be to the workshop to replace the pads with ceramic ones.
You should be using ceramic pads because they are more efficient, heat tolerant, rotor friendly and have a much lower dust problem than ordinary ones. Ceramic pads comes out tops on technical discussions on various Volvo Club meets that I attend. One can only learn from others.
You can check out the links already supplied on the other answers so I won’t repeat them.
volvoworld.com links to main volvo site. If you google it it will take you to vlvworld, the prices are good in general and I have purchased from them before but only through a friend residing in the USA because they dont ship outside USA (I live in New Zealand)
The trouble with
http://www.oem-volvo-parts.com/
http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/
is they only ship outside USA using DHL/UPS/Airborne which can be expensive.
On ebay look for the seller = foreigncarpartsonline
With 22,000 plus 99.9% positive feedback you can’t go wrong.
They sell Akebono ceramics for your S60 for US$123 to do all front and back. Plus airmail shipping to UAE US$28. Much cheaper than 700 dirhams for just the front.
IPDUSA (link already supplied) sells Mintex Ceramics. About US$100 to do all front and back. plus shipping. Under US$40 to UAE.
I’ve heard good reports about Mintex ceramics and Akebono ceramics but have yet to compare them. I think either should be good. Also heard good reports about Hawk and EBC ceramics but have yet to find a source using the postal system.
Last thing, check the thickness of your rotors to see if you need new rotors as well.
Minimum required rotor thickness for pad replacement is 23.8mm (25.8mm if you have 16″ brake disc)
