"Engine Stall Problems on 1999 KIA Sephia"

1999 KIA Sephia

My 1999 KIA Sephia transmission going slips, the O/D off light is blinking with the check engine light was on. And now, the engine was stalls when I stop at a red light or when I’m at around 0 – 15 mph while accelerating from a red light. It doesn’t stall in higher speeds. Could it be a symptom from the other problems or is it possibly a problem of its own?

Answer: You may just have a vacuum leak on your air intake system. Any leaks behind the mass air flow sensor can cause this. A can of starting fluid works well to find these leaks. If a leak is present at a connection the vacume will suck the fluid in to the motor and rev the engine.
Use cation when using this technique , starting fluid is nuclear compared to gasoline. So only use enough to saturate the connection. (hoses, manifold ,etc ) Large air leaks you can hear or feel with your hand. But the small ones are hard to detect , thus why we use the starting fluid.
Vacuum hoses dry-rot and need replacing often. It’s cheap and easy to fix , especially for what a major problem they can cause . Go to your local parts store (do it in the lot) and pull them off, match them up , trim to size , and push back on.
Another possibility could be a bad lock-up in the torque converter, inside the transmission bell housing.
