Is it possible to flash the ECU on a 1999 Nissan Altima GXE? I know on some cars you cant flash the computer, if so what (free) program should I use. Do I have to read the ecu first then email it to a company to be remapped? Thanks!
Answer: Your are partially correct some ECM have
E-Proms or rewritable chips that are reprogrammable and 1999 Altima does
not. In the year 2000 and newer Nissan Altima ECU is rewritable. It takes a special Nissan Consult 3 or 3 device hooked into the data link under the dash and a battery charger to keep the voltage right. If there is a performance option for your Computer see the Jim Wolfe Technology’s web site. Very few Dyno tune shops have the necessary soft ware to pull off a re-flash on a Nissan Altima ECU.
