How do I check the ECU codes on my 1994 Honda Civic. I have the Hayes
manual but is not really helping me. I am not sure what to connect.
My VSS sensor burned out and I’m pretty sure that. That’s the reason
why the Check Engine Came On. When I was trying to figure out how to
read the Codes I tried different combination now my ABS light came on.
Since I don’t know how to get the codes I do not know what’s wrong with
the Car. P lease help me.
Answer: On the 94 civic there is a two terminal
connector behind the right side of the instrument panel by the glove
box. You need to jump the terminals of that connector using a jumper
wire then with the jumper in place turn the ignition key on and count
the long and short flashes of the check engine light. The long flash is
about 1/2 second; the short flash about half of that. Each long flash
counts for a value of 10 and each short flash is a value of 1 so if you
have 4 long flashes and 3 short flashes the code is 43. Then you can get
the information on that.
The two terminal connector should be easy to spot; it will be near the underside of the glove box under the close out panel. I think its on the very right side of the car but it may be more towards the center of the glove box.
