Luxury Volvo S40 View |
I am replacing the brake pads on my Volvo S40 today and someone told me that the pistons are different and operate on a retractable screw system.
Can I still use a c-clamp to force them back or is there another way?
Is there anything else I should know before starting the job?
Answer: The front calipers are normal and will compress with a “c” clamp. The rear calipers must have the piston[s] rotated in a clockwise direction[facing piston]
while pressing them back [light pressure is all that is needed] you can
purchase a cheap “cube” tool that has engagement tangs for 6 different
style pistons [yours will be one of them] and use a 3/8 drive ratchet
and extension to screw in the piston.[lightly pushing down as you turn]
Note if you use a “c” clamp on these you will ruin them, and render the car unsafe to drive.
