Black 1997 Audi A6 Avant Front View |
The brakes on my 1997 Audi A6 Avant make a thumping sound when applying the brakes at slow speed. The noise seems to be coming from the abs unit under the bonnet. Other symptoms include the brake pedal juddering when slow speed braking. However when I perform an emergency stop the abs works fine. Any ideas how to fix it or is the abs unit problems?
Answer: It sounds like
the rotor is warped. This could throw the ABS into a head-spin but that
does not mean the ABS is bad. That would make another noise like a
ticking and the ABS warning lamp would have come on. Also could be the
front suspension; if it has more than 50km miles it should be inspected.
