I have a Peugeot 206, 16v 1.6 GLX and I have been having gearbox problems, sometimes I am unable to put it in reverse without putting it in another gear first. I would like to hear from you experts out there, it is possible to replace my transmission with a transmission of a Peugeot
206 GTI with no complications? To solve this problem and are closely
linked, shifting in my GLX. Do I have to replace all other mechanical parts, to allow this change? Please share, thanks.
Answer: I don’t have a 206. But with your problem you described, I wouldn’t replace the gearbox until I was sure I:
1. didn’t need a new clutch driven plate. The current one is too thin.
2. didn’t need a new release bearing, current one has worn down too thin.
3. didn’t need some kind of adjustment on my gear linkage to the gear lever?. (206 may not allow linkage adjustments, idk).
4. CLUTCH CABLE adjustment. Do you have enough pedal-to-floor distance? This allows clutch to fully disengage to change gears.
These answers are all cheaper and easier than a gearbox replacement.

Is your current engine a 206 Gti 180? UK model? then I have read this about the gearbox:
There is very little torque steer despite all that power being delivered through the front wheels. The 180 gets improved gear ratios with second gear up shortened while first gear is lengthened to make the car more usable about town.

The other engines available in a 206 have the SAME 5-speed transmission (gearbox), the 5M.
